Rockford Rescue Mission Receives Major Comfort Makeover

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — Due to funding provided through various grants and donations from the local community, the Rockford Rescue Mission has enhanced its crisis center to increase comfort levels for those utilizing their services.

The Women’s and Children’s Crisis Center at the Mission received 64 new mattresses thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Woodward Charitable Trust.

Due to a contribution of $2,500 from the Rockford Meijer supermarket, 200 new pillows have been acquired for both the Men’s and Women’s Crisis Centers.

Thanks to contributions from the local community, additional bedding items such as sheets and pillowcases were acquired.

Sherry Pitney, who leads the Rockford Rescue Mission as its CEO, explains, “Having a comfortable, secure, and tidy spot to rest can significantly impact individuals going through some of the toughest moments in their lives. Our crisis centers see frequent usage throughout the year, which means we must regularly update our well-worn linens. We’re deeply thankful to the Woodward Charitable Trust, Meijer, and every one of our contributors whose support makes these updates possible.”

On Friday, May 2, volunteers from First Free Church assisted with setting up the new mattresses and linens.
