PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – It’s easier to get to Washington, D.C., out of Plattsburgh now, thanks to a new route that just took off on Thursday. But another airline is looking across the lake for its service instead.
Chris Kreig, the director of the Plattsburgh International Airport, says Thursday was a strong start for the flight service to Dulles in Virginia on Contour Airlines.
“We’re observing robust reservations for that service. Therefore, we anticipate success with this offering,” Kreig stated.
He mentions that Allegiant plans to reintroduce its service to Myrtle Beach starting from May 15th.
Despite the return of those popular routes, Kreig says Breeze Airways is hitting the brakes. He says the airline made the decision at the end of April.
“I think the community, you know, seems to enjoy having their service. So, we are hoping to look at what their future plans and we continue to be in them,” Kreig said.
Breeze’s decision comes as Customs and Border Protection’s March crossing numbers for the northern border showed a 31% drop in visitors.
In Plattsburgh, Kreig says Canadians make up roughly 50% of air travelers.
“We want them to utilize the airport. The services provided here are meant for everyone just as much as they serve those within the local community. Hence, the airport is intended for all,” Kreig stated.
According to a statement made to WCAX News, a representative from Breeze Airways mentioned that their services in Plattsburgh are currently “on seasonal hiatus” and expressed hopes to resume operations there in 2026. The company also confirmed that they maintain flight schedules at Burlington International Airport.
