The president aims to utilize the renovated airplane by autumn, according to sources who spoke with the publication, and he frequently monitors its development. This particular craft serves as a temporary measure until the Boeing planes arrive.
The present presidential aircrafts, which have been in use since the George H.W. Bush administration, are approaching their retirement phase.
In his initial term, Trump tasked Boeing with building two new airplanes for approximately $3.9 billion. Over six years since Boeing secured the contract, these aircraft remain delayed and have exceeded their original budget by several billion dollars due to issues involving suppliers, production challenges, and engineering problems.
That means, unless Trump finds a way to
bypass the 22nd Amendment as he has considered,
he would be out of office before being able to use them.
The move to find an alternative came a few weeks after the CEO of Boeing visited the Oval Office to meet with the president on April 18, the outlet reported.
